SHOP NEWS: Come in and look around - you'll be astounded at the new work spaces CESCO is creating at 230 STIRLING STREET. Old cabinets have given way to new display space and new stock is flooding in. A brand-new second-floor training area is being constructed. Soon customers and staff members can receive the latest in photographic training in an atmosphere of comfort! More news as it breaks. Speaking of staff members - our best wishes to Gary Tarbert who is going back to his own furniture shop to help it weather the economic storms. Good luck Gary. And good luck to the writer of the CESCO TIMES, Uncle Dick Stein - currently recuperating from heart surgery. Thanks to the marvels of the internet, THE TIMES is being typed out from home. It is terribly frustrating to sit here when there may be large or medium-format questions unanswered in the shop - also customers who may have darkroom or film enquiries (we have pulled from the archives our old buddy and special friend Ron Nell to help out more than usual). Perhaps it might be possible to contact me through the shop via Saul or Howard and they will pass any messages so I can assist during the months of recovery.
NEW!!! ----- CAPTURE One Pro 4: Staff were recently privileged to attend a training lecture by Walter Borchenko, the man who made this program. And what a program - from RAW management to batch conversion to batch stylization (the only way I can describe what I saw - one shot post production remake of an entire shoot) this one has it all. - RRP $599 XMAS
NIKON PRICE PLUNGE IN TIME FOR THE HOLIDAYS: Light a candle and decorate a tree! We have a holiday special on a NIKON lens that will make the coming summer holidays sparkle for someone. Now, when you go out on holiday and tour the country, what do you bring back? Sunburn and photos, of course. We can't help with the former but there is a NIKON 70-300VR lens on the shelf right now that will make the pictures perfect. It's the lightweight metal-mount ED version with the AF-S motor so it will fit all Nikon DSLR's and the results are superb. Best news of all. CESCO price right now has dropped from a former $899 to only $699. Don't hesitate - this one will be flying out the door, so fly in and see it right now.
HAHNEMUHLE PAPERS: The range of top-quality HAHNEMEULHLE papers is increasing. CESCO will be stocking a number of new papers with surfaces uniquely suited to monochrome work. These are to be very precise surface textures - lignin free for archival quality - and anywhere from 30 to 100 per cent cotton rag. They are premium papers reminiscent of those used by the most famous of the European etchers. Indeed, one surface is named after Albrecht Durer. These are the papers to use when presentation is paramount. Come see the full range!
ELINCHROM KITS ARRIVING: As this reporter was gathering the news yesterday new ELINCHROM flash kits were being delivered to the shop. The new kits are the 500 BX series. As the number implies, these are 500WS heads but they do have several new features: inbuilt variable cooling fans, visual flash confirmation, and best of all - inbuilt Skyport flash receivers. For anyone who has ever tried out the ELINCHROM Skyport system, you'll know the quality and small size of the transmitters. They are an absolute necessity in any studio crowded with cables and clutter. Now you don't even have to add them to your studio strobes - they are already in there. Of course the whole range of ELINCHROM light shapers still fits. Personal recommendation? The silver beauty dish - with one of these on a 500BX and a hair light you have a dramatic 2-light studio that goes ANYWHERE!
SONY RANGE ARRIVING: CESCO is proud to announce that it will be stocking the entire Alpha DSLR range from SONY together with all the lenses. This is a welcome addition to the fine products from other makers and particularly welcome for professional photographers in two classes: Those who already have Sony or Konica/Minolta lenses, and those who are starting out a studio from new. Recent studio training was given to CESCO staff (we get all the fun at 230 Stirling Street) on the top-of-the-line SONY A900. This is a full-frame DSLR with massive pixelage and extremely advanced processor. The build quality is solid - very solid. The functionality is wonderful, including a facility for a memory-free preview shot that can then be adjusted on-screen to guide the entire shoot. The camera's accessory flash unit has THE cleverest mount in the business. I kid you not - the flash has been attached in such a way that when you rotate your camera up to portrait mode, the flash rotates up too. No more side shadows across faces. No more awkward flipping brackets. This is a wedding camera par excellence. The lenses? SONY of course, and some pretty nice zooms there too, and then we have the jewels in the heart of the system. CARL ZEISS lenses for SONY. These are lenses made to be the best in the world. Users of other camera systems that also share CZ lenses know this without being told. But for those of us who may not have experienced the clarity, resolution, and contrast of these lenses, the files that result can be nothing short of a revelation. The SONY A 900 equipped with the CARL ZEISS lenses can turn out commercial and fine-art work equivalent to anything on the planet - and at a price that a small studio can afford. Come into CESCO where the new displays are ready - handle the cameras and lenses. Remember that this is your chance to get the best and capture your share of market success.
CANON 5D MK2: These fine cameras are now starting to appear on the market. The staff training has been completed - and we were particularly taken with the performance of the new micro-lenses on the sensors - and keen Canon enthusiasts will be eager to get their hands on their new camera. Pre-delivery orders are still being taken, but as the flow of units starts to increase the waiting time should shorten. Perhaps while you are waiting you might care to purchase an arm-full of new CANON lenses to go with the body? The 100-400 is particularly popular, and a fine choice for anyone going out into the field for large wildlife or field sports.
NIKON D3x ANNOUNCED: The new NIKON D3x has been announced. This will compliment the current D3 by raising the megapixelage of this professional system camera while still maintaining a good rate of fire and ability to cope with dim light. The same ultra-rugged construction has been preserved - these are cameras designed to produce professional results and earn professional fees all day/every day. It will be an investment that pays off for the photographer - and a darn sight more fun to play with than the stock market. Register for the D3X OPEN DAY 20TH JAN 2009!
NANEU NANEU: Was that the catch-cry of Robyn Williams in an old television show? Oh, dear, what a memory to retain. In any case CESCO can do better - we have a complete range of the NANEU PRO bags ready for Christmas. These are heavily discounted ('cause we got a lot of them and they are filling up the darn storage shelves) and very good value for money. I particularly like the small snoot bag they make - it is a perfect answer for smaller DSLR's like the NIKON D80 or the CANON 1000D when you only want to take one body and one lens on holiday. Small, fast, secure, and It'll fasten to your belt or depend from your shoulder. Come see the full range and buy some and give us our storage space back! 20-40% OFF!
NEW ---- SLIK TRIPOD RANGE: Come in and see the new Slik tripod display stand with the new range of heads, monopods and selection alloy and carbon fibre tripods.
NEW ---- EIZO MONITORS: Camera Electronic are now a stockist of the Eizo range of Monitors. Come in and see the most popular 24 inch Colour Edge. Eizo manufactures high end display monitors which are a world leader, and first choice for all imaging specialists. They have very low power consumption, compact design and outstanding colour rendition enabling the highest quality in image presentation.
HAPPY HOLIDAYS: CESCO wishes all the best for this coming holiday season. We'll be selling (frantically, one hopes) up until the 24th of December but then we knock off for a staff break until January 5th 2009. Remember to stock up on film, darkroom supplies, batteries, memory cards and SONY A900 cameras for the holiday break.
