THE CESCO TIMES - March 2010 - photo news for photo people

IN THIS ISSUE - NEW EVERYTHING!
PEOPLE/PRODUCTS/PROMOTIONS!

Your favourite online newsletter is back again - no, not the one from the dodgy political organisation in Canberra - the one from us, the Stirling Street photographic shop. We've got better ideas about how to save the nation and ours are a lot more fun!

Welcome to the March issue of THE CESCO TIMES. It is past the middle of the month and now we can concentrate on the real love of our lives: photography.

HASSELBLAD H4D-40 LAUNCH A WINNER:

Like what? How would you like to be able to focus on the big medium format viewfinder screen and then change your point of composition without sacrificing any of the critical sharpness of the central spot in the lens? HASSELBLAD has incorporated gyro sensors to decide how far you have moved away from critical focus and to bring it back. Significantly sharper images!

The launch of this new camera at the Hotel Northbridge on 18 March saw many of Perth's best photo pros. Note the happy winner of the HASSELBLAD Masters book. A great video presentation highlighted the use of the H4D-40 by noted photojournalists, commercial, and wedding photographers - their prints were on exhibition at a "mere" 1100mm x 1500mm and they were sharp.

Ring us up here at CESCO and ask about this new camera. From $24,995.00

HOCKING ON VIDEO - A FOTO FREO TREAT:

Greg Hocking has a photographic vision that - unlike many other stills photographers - was honed on moving images. Rumour has it that he is the cameraman figure seen running away in the historic footage of the HINDENBURG disaster - we have yet to confirm it.

Be that as it may he was able to help Perth photographers struggling with the new DSLR cameras that feature HD video as part of their specifications. Greg gave a talk on the pros and cons of this New field on 28th March at 1:30 PM at Kulcha Fremantle, 1st floor 13 South Terrace, Fremantle. It was very much appreciated by those who wished to know how to use the new cameras to their full potential.

Oh, the humanity...

PMA USA - BACK WITH THE GOODIES:

The management is back in the country and the news is good. Saul, Howard, and Ernest have returned from the 2010 Photo Marketing Association with a suitcase load of samples and a shop-full of ideas. The variety of good things from small parts to complete imaging systems is staggering. Plans are already underway to import many new lines and to introduce them to Australia's photographers. Even the sales staff members have had a chance to see the samples and to predict whether they will be good sellers.

My favourite is a camera strap system ostensibly developed from a dragoon carbine sling. No more sore necks from giant DSLR's and the whole camera and lens combo swings up in a flash for use. I do hope we sell them...

NOVOFLEX AND ANIMAL FARM:

Alright, that one got you. Remember the lines in Orwell's ANIMAL FARM that said "Four legs good - two legs bad"? Well NOVOFLEX have introduced a new line for camera support that does better - it has one, two, three, or four legs available. The QuadroPod system features detachable long and short legs that take advantage of any surface to hold your camera steady. You can lean it against a wall, let it straddle the center console of your car, or hunker down on the table top as a mini tripod. Err…quadpod. Or bipod.

Darn near anything, and as it is NOVOFLEX it is styled and engineered superbly. Design and aesthetics really do mean something. Well built.
