The Camera Electronic Story
Ronald Frank established Camera Electronic Service Company Pty Ltd (CESCO) from his home in 1968 and by 1971 had gained a respected and recognised reputation for quality and knowledge within the photographic arena.
As a result of increased demand and growth, Ron opened his first retail store in Angove Street, in North Perth. Seventeen years of tremendous expansion led to a second move in 1988, this time to larger premises in Fitzgerald Street. The escalating success of this by now established Perth icon, created a need for a custom designed showroom and spacious workshops. Once again, a move was planned and in 1996, 230 Stirling Street became the official and still current home for Perth's expert photographic team.
Over the past years Camera Electronic has risen to become one of Australia's premier industry leaders in imaging. This is reflected in our reputation, exceptional service and recorded excellence. Our universal recognition is the result of strict quality control, insightful management, a consistent and cutting-edge knowledge of the market, and above all, our qualified and dedicated staff. In 2008, Ron Frank retired from Camera Electronic Sales and Service and handed the running of the business over to his two sons, Saul and Howard. Since then, they have implemented new product lines, a wholesale division, and taken the company to new heights to be Perth's best photographic retailer, with premium photographic equipment and knowledge.
Proving our commitment to the imaging education of the Perth photographic community, we continue to host regular photowalks and workshops, allowing attendees to ask our knowledgeable team questions and to try the latest photographic equipment. 2010 marked the opening of our education affiliate partner, Shoot Photography Workshops. Located at 232 Stirling St, Shoot Workshops provide genuine practical learning experiences in all aspects of photography at affordable prices. All workshops and events from Shoot Photography Workshops and Camera Electronic aim to educate, inspire and provide tools to develop your technical skills, confidence & creativity.
In 2011, to mark the 40th anniversary, Saul and Howard implemented the new name of "Camera Electronic" along with new branding of the business. In 2015, Camera Electronic organised and hosted the inaugural Photo Live Expo, Australia’s largest consumer photographic expo, with all major imaging brands represented. In 2016, Photo Live Expo doubled in size and we will continue to work towards bringing this unique event to the photographic community in Perth each year.
The 11th of June 2016 marked the 45-year anniversary of Camera Electronic and was a year in which we continued our support and sponsorship of local camera clubs, the West Australian Photographic Federation (WAPF), the West Australian Institute of Professional Photographers (WAIPP) and a myriad of local businesses and photography competitions. For several years, we have been a national sponsor of the AIPP (Australian Institute of Professional Photographers) in the travel category.
In 2016 Camera Electronic expanded the photographic possibilities for Perth - a new shop was opened in Murray Street to bring the best of the photo retail experience to city workers and visitors. A great selection of new equipment and of new on-site printing facilities mean that no-one has to miss out - and additional opening hours make it easy to call in. Even tourists who need fast pictures are catered for.
Of course, the Stirling Street premises are still the hub of photo excellence for repairs, rentals, and larger equipment consultation.
The photographic fun never stops with Camera Electronic because everyone associated with it really does love photography!
