Best On Three Legs

on January 31, 2024

I own 6 tripods, all of which are the best. But they are not as good as this Sirui, which is also the best.

Before you petition to have me committed, let me explain that all of the tripods are the best  for something without being the best for everything. In the case of the Sirui SH25 video kit you get your best table platform for video work at an affordable price. You also get a tripod that you can actually carry and actuate easily.

The fluid head is smooth, the video handle sturdy, the levelling cradle easy to lock, and the quick release mounting unobtrusive. This may sound trivial, but my video rig is nowhere near as good as this…it needed some adapting to allow battery changes in operation and the pant a tilt is nowhere as good as this.

The leg locks are twist key - far more likely to last than spring lever locks and far easier to open and close than knurled collars. There are two locks and four shafts per leg - the lot could actually be dunked in salt or sand with little damage. The last thing the videographer wants to do in the filed is baby the equipment.

The spreader triangle is attached to the legs - you cannot lose or forget it back at the studio and you can ask me how I know that’s important…

The amazing thing about this combo is the price - it makes more economic sense than most of the ones I own. Only a false sense of frugality keeps me from getting one myself - perhaps if I can sell off a couple of the others…

If you don’t own any yet, get this one.
