The Best M

on January 04, 2024

Remember what we said about disagreeing with this blog? If you think your Leica M is better than this M11, come down and try one out.

 Bring money.

You can track the course of development in the Leica cameras by following the numbers. Here is the Leica M11 and now is the time to remember what Ron Frank said: “ Buy well and buy once “. He had Leica, Hasselblad, and Linhof in mind - as well as a lot of other top-quality goods like Gitzo and Zeiss and such. He was right, and you will be too if you invest in Leica.

“ Invest “ is a word that you see when a price is scary…but there is a chance that it will come back to you with a dividend. This was my experience with Leica - though that was a long time ago. It DID pay off.

The Leica buyer will get the best quality in construction and design, and pay for it. If they decide to put Leica lenses on the body they will keep that standard as high as possible - and pay for it. If they ever decide to relinquish the gear, it will sell back for a top price. That’s the fiscal truth - but you have to remember that what people can do with the gear while they own it makes the business worthwhile.

If they are are adventurers they can get shot at and fall down mountains and bring back perfect shots of their misery.

If they are working pros they can grind through years of weddings and headshots to the satisfaction of their clients and accountants.

If they are idle rich who want to impress their neighbours, they can do so every day. And have good pictures of the jealousy they engender. It takes all sorts…

If you buy the best current M Leica, they will eventually bring out the next model, and it will have a higher number. But you will still have the best camera in the world in your hands, and the value of that will not go down.
