The AF180FG has a slightly lower guide number of 59' at ISO 100 or 82' at ISO 200. It offers a recycle time of 5-6 seconds and runs on two optional AAA batteries for approximately 100-130 flashes. One of the biggest benefits of this rugged flash unit is its completely protected dustproof body with 18 seals all around its structure, including the hot shoe. If you decide to shoot outdoors, you won't need to worry about harsh weather conditions, such as rain or mist. Pentax provides a carry case for transport and storage of the flash.

Features at a Glance

In addition to automatic control, the AF180FG has a simple, intuitive dial on its back that enables the setting of manual power at 1/1 or 1/4. The flash also offers a recycle time of 5-6 seconds and is compatible with first and second curtain sync modes. Another feature is automatic power off after three minutes of non-operation.

Bounce Flash Functionality

The flash head is vertically adjustable to 10 different angles, up to 135°, softening shadows to create a more natural look. Adjust it to -10, 0, 30, 45, 60, 75, 90, 105, 120, and 135° for convenient bouncing off the ceiling or wall. It's worth mentioning that this flash doesn't rotate horizontally.

Coverage Angle, Wide-Angle Panel

A built-in, pull-out, and wide-angle panel is featured on the flash to cover 20mm angle of view in a 35mm format. Without the panel, the flash has a coverage area of a 24mm angle for full-frame or 16mm for APS-C.

Easy Dial Operation

Experience an easy-to-use, simplified operating system that starts the flash as soon as you turn its Discharge Mode dial, which also works as a convenient on/off switch.

Battery Power

The AF180FG runs on two separately available AAA batteries for approximately 100-130 flashes. The recycling time varies depending on the batteries; the recycle time is six seconds when using alkaline batteries (for 100 flashes) or five seconds with Ni-MH batteries (for 130 flashes).
